There are a ton of South Asian candidates running for office this year, and SAARI is bringing you a guide to figure out who’s who.

We’re starting with the Greens. We’ve identified 7 South Asian Greens candidates across the country.

Rachael Jacobs, Grayndler (NSW)

Lecturer in Creative Arts Education, former secondary teacher

Freelance writer, aerial arts instructor, South Asian dancer and choreographer

Founding member of the community activism group Teachers for Refugees

Chetan Sahai, Sydney (NSW)

Housing and climate activist

Has a degree in chemical engineering and computer science at UNSW

Worked in the private sector as a software engineer, management consultant, and product manager

Sujan Selven, Chifley (NSW)

Community worker and human rights advocate

Left Sri Lanka and moved to Australia aged 15

Apurva Shukla, Werriwah (NSW)

Parents immigrated to Sydney from India when he was a one-year-old

Currently 22 years old and a recent graduate

Sujit Mathew, Holt (VIC)

Studied Bachelor of Engineering and IT from LIMAT, India

Worked at Google

Worked in sustainable development of community and refugee youth with the United Nations covering southeast Asian countries

Works at South East Water, a Victorian Government-owned retail water corporation

Adam Abdul Razak, Tangney (WA)

Chemical engineer by trade

Briefly worked in the oil and gas industry, before realising his own environmental concerns were not aligned with big companies

Anna Sri, Senate (QLD)

Veterinarian

Public health advocate
